Reference "Les Insignes De L'Armee Viet Namienne" by L'Association Symboles et Traditions, Paris, 1986, no. 126. TD = TIEU DOAN. Created 1 December 1952 (South Vietnam), by the transfer of the BMEO (Bataillon Marche Extreme Orient), stationed at Phuoc Hoa.
This is one of the rarest of the Vietnamese TD badges, and highly sought after due to the popular design of the charging bull elephant.
Current French dealer retail price 230€ = 5, but note "rupture de stock" = sold out. Hallmarked Arthus Bertrand 46 Rue de Rennes. The back appears to have had some oxidation cleaned a long time ago as it is quite toned now. There is a tiny bit of solder on the pastille; my guess is that the straight pin part of the attachment slid up and down and was perhaps resoldered to keep it in place. Attachment pin intact. Genuine, not a restrike.
