Vintage silver metallic tinsel thread
Vintage spool of very fine silver metallic tinsel type thread from an old factory in Saint Etienne, in the centre of France.  Saint Etienne was famous for all sorts of lace ribbon and thread and this was produced for the embroidery business.
The spools were wound, wrapped in silver paper to stop them tarnishing and then in brown paper.  These particular spools have been stored without their protective silver paper and so the outer layers are a little t
arnished.
Each spool is not complete but I can't tell you what length of thread is on there.  It is minutely thin - very difficult to measure but it is about 1/2 mm wide or 1/50 of an inch - an approximation only
The bobbin is a green plastic and in the indentations on one end are various markings including '50' and '22 gr'.  It is 2 inches in height ( just over 5 cm ) and 1 7/8 inches in diameter ( just under 5 cm).
The spool weighs about 90 grams : this represents about 70 grams of silver thread as the plastic spool itself weighs 20 grams.  When full the spool weighs 225 grams so I'd say the spool is just over a third full!
