    Description

U.S. War Dept. transition to Defense Dept. (1947)--Last SECRETARY OF WAR
    Includes:
    1. Brass "Secretary of War" door plate reportedly removed and stored by office staff upon termination of the position on September 18, 1947.  3" x 12".
    Scuffs and oxidation are present.
    2. "War Department, Washington, D.C." legal size envelope, addressed and cancelled. This was apparently from old stock stationery still in use after termination of the "War Department" in September of 1947. The addressee name and address are typed on the envelope, but are omitted in the photos for this listing.  The envelope is soiled, has small tears, and was slit open on the left side.
    3.  Associated Press wire photo of Kenneth Royall, the last Secretary of War.  6.5" x 9". Good condition.
